Resignation from Parliament Magazine

Catherine Stihler MEP has resigned as editor of the Parliament Magazine with immediate effect following the false allegations that organisations have special access to her and office staff as a result of advertising in the magazine.  A senior member of staff allegedly from the Parliament Magazine made these allegations whilst in conversation with an undercover journalist.

On 3rd June 2011, Mrs Stihler made the following statement to the press:

“I am furious at the thought of the allegations that were printed in the Sunday Times (5 June 2011).

No organisation has ever had, nor will they ever have, special access to me or my staff as a result of advertising in the magazine.

I don’t know whether this was a deliberate attempt to mislead a potential advertiser, or simply a case of a salesman getting carried away by his own bravado.

But as far as I am concerned a bond of trust has been broken. I refuse to be associated with an organisation that has allowed my name to be dishonestly used in this way.

I will of course give the Parliament Magazine an opportunity to give their side of the story, but I find it difficult to see how I could continue my role with the publication in the light of these allegations."
