European Globalisation Adjustment Fund
Sir,
It is ludicrous and reckless of the Tory-Liberal Coalition to oppose the European Globalisation Adjustment Fund (EGF).
The EGF exists to support workers who have lost their jobs due to changes in global trade patterns. When an enterprise or industry closes down and relocates to another part of the world, redundant workers need help to find new jobs. The fund can help with re-training, occupational guidance, IT skills, mobility allowances and entrepreneurship promotion, to name just a few. It can lift people out of real hardship and social exclusion.
How anyone can oppose such a vital measure is very telling of their true colours and values. I will continue to push for the survival of the Fund and for it to be used most effectively. In these hard financial times, workers must be protected and valued, not left to struggle.
Yours sincerely,
Catherine Stihler MEP
