David Cameron On Poverty

 Sir,

David Cameron’s ill-informed attack on parents forced to bring their children up in poverty illustrates how out of touch he is with reality. (ITV, 9 June 2011). No one chooses to live in poverty.  His claims appear even more insensitive after the BBC aired the harrowing documentary ‘Poor Kids’, which highlighted the extent of child poverty in modern Britain.  Instead of lecturing the nation on who is ‘deserving’ and who is ‘undeserving’, Mr. Cameron should perhaps take a long hard look at the policies he is promoting.  The Tory-led government are cutting too fast and too deep, destroying communities across the country. As a civilised, democratic society and one of the richest in the world, it is a disgrace that children in Britain still go hungry.

Yours sincerely,

Catherine Stihler MEP
