Cameron's European Mistake
Sir,
David Cameron’s decision to exclude Britain from the top table in Europe is a recipe for disaster. It is vital that Britain is at the heart of the decision making process, defending British interests and jobs, not vetoing from the sidelines. Nevertheless, to walk away from the situation was hardly a ‘veto’, considering Mr. Cameron neither prevented anything from happening and he left with no allies – a sign of weakness and defeat.
The purpose of the summit was not for Britain to join the euro or implement any legislation where we have an opt-out, it was simply an opportunity for Britain to be at the forefront of European affairs. Instead of putting Britain first he was too wrapped up worrying about the thoughts of his eurosceptic backbenchers. Cameron’s reckless decision should come as no surprise considering he ripped his Conservative MEPs out of the mainstream Centre Right EEP block in 2009 and instead formed a nexus with politicians known to have neo-Nazi connections.
The Tories are wrong on Europe and wrong on the economy. As a trading nation which relies on a close connection with our European partners, Britain will undoubtedly suffer from Cameron’s mistake.
Yours sincerely,
Catherine Stihler
