SNP... Pro-Europeans?

Sir,

It is rather hypocritical of Alyn Smith MEP to declare that Mr. Cameron holds a ‘strange’ position on Europe, when the SNP’s stance is itself questionable.

The SNP are quick to refer to themselves as ‘passionate Europeans’.  How can the SNP have the audacity to refer to themselves as ‘pro-European’ when they oppose  the Lisbon Treaty?

The SNP have more in common with the Tories than they realise, and if they got their way they would leave Scotland isolated in Europe.  The Lisbon Treaty, if ratified, will extend the power of the European Parliament, and for the first time give national Parliaments a say in drafting European legislation and also in rejecting it.

Surely if the SNP were as pro-European as they say, they would not oppose a more democratic, effective and dynamic EU?

Yours sincerely,
